The Wish
To understand the wish, the want, the will
that worms its way beneath my skin wriggling, writhing, rolling.
Out I look and down over streets tarred, streets marred,
footpaths scarred by footprints hard.
A thousand million steps forever strolling…
To understand the hurt, the hate, the haunts
that hit and hammer this holy night bursting, banging, burning.
As we while and wait the morning light,
colours bright, clear in sight, eyes alight.
Half awake wondering, half forever yearning…
To understand the love, the loss, the law
of learning to trust the tricks of truth, bending, barking, breaking.
The strains and chains of rights and wrongs
go on and on to gather words of songs soon gone
When sung through windows into walls forever shaking…
O how am I to serve this life of yours
so frail in this crowded crowd, caring, calling, crying.
For now I know I’ve never known
nor grown to own this lone, stone statue
heart of mine forever prying…
To understand the sight, the sigh, the stare
of eyes red and raw from inner fires churning, chopping, choking.
Flat I fall, face down to hide in hills and holes,
so cold and old with starving souls, empty bowls.
Plundered, plucked and ploughed by thoughts ever provoking…
To understand the age, the end, the ink
that pours from pen to paper scratching, squirming, squeaking.
As I sit and watch the minutes go
and hours, days and rivers flow and grow to know I cannot slow
The waterfall of words forever speaking…
O how am I to serve this life of yours
worming there beneath my skin, wriggling, writhing, rolling.
And what with waiting comes with morning light
clear of sight, eyes alight with colours bright.
A thousand million bells forever tolling…

Along A Path
Along a path I met a child in a room of comic walls
he was smiling as an ornament and crawling on all fours
he crawled in and out of doorways some scarred with fear and threat
some loud with scolding voices and some silent in regret
and his mother in her wisdom and his father in his pride
stood by him through the centuries and dried the tears he cried
On a path I met a soldier in a swamp of corpses felled
he was fighting through his fever and a hot and fiery hell
he battled his exhaustion with every pain and nerve
and took every step with caution through the life of death he served
and behind the walls of politics the leaders running guns
never saw the eyes of millions weeping water on the sun
Along a path I met a beggar in a home that housed the poor
he was suffering in his wishes for the riches that he saw
he searched with all his hunger through black and bloodshot eye
his daily bread for living as the winter dawdled by
and his path crossed many others all with nothing more to give
but a portion of a treasure was the life they had to live
On a path I met a preacher on a mountain high with stone
whose love shone as a beacon to light a world unknown
he spoke softly to the children who had lost all their belief
like a warm and gentle ocean that washed a jagged reef
he calmed and cleaned and cured the sick, the weak and more
all the same in their appearance and the same in all they saw
Along a path I met a prophet in the light of changing skies
as earth and all her guiltless lay cut by history’s knives
he called all the world to gather to heed the warning signs
as a thousand fires lit the sky and shook the edge of time
as the birds sang to the morning and every summer’s eve
a gentle rain fell through the night and filled the emptied seas
On a path I met a gambler who had placed his final bet
who had taken all his chances and now stood alone in debt
he had turned away from guidance to play his hand with fate
he had wagered all his livelihood and lost his every stake
now his heart cries out in mourning for his soul is barren ground
his life and love are waning as he lays his money down

I Saw Your Eyes
I saw your fire, your flames and your ashes
I saw your earth and your sea and your sun
I saw your flowers, your wind and your shadows
I saw your armour, your cross and your gun…
I saw your winters, your spring and your summer
I saw your rain and the snow as it fell
I saw your mountains, your sky and your thunder
I saw your angels from heaven and hell…
I saw your eyes searching high in the skies
for an angel to bring to you heaven in hell ….
I saw your morning, the light on the hillsides
I saw the dew and the birds in the sky.
I saw your rivers, your ships and your bridges
I saw your veils hide tears in your eyes…
I saw your needles, your thread and your reasons
I saw your lions, your statues of stone.
I saw your silence, your changes of season
I saw your sadness in whispers of home…
I saw your eyes searching high in the skies
for an angel to bring to you whispers of home….
I saw your oceans, your waves on the shoreline
I saw your fish and the silt on the sand.
I saw your castles, your guards and their horses
I saw your future in the lines on your hand…
I saw your gardens, your dreams and your houses
I saw your forests, your valleys your farms
I saw your farewells, your books and your boxes
I saw your welcomes, the love in your arms…
I saw your eyes searching high in the skies
for an angel to bring you - love in your arms.…

As Free As Life
As free and easy breezes blow, as free as birds will sing
As old and tall as trees will grow life gives to everything
As sweet as honey-flowers smell, as grand as moon & sun
As clear and cool as river’s bell, Life gives to all each one.
True life shall never hurry by nor ever once pretend
Nor ever shall it worry why from the beginning to the end
As free as fruit upon the tree she fills my heart with song
Without a thought of what should be, for nothing could be wrong.
She does not ponder memory nor hold a single grudge
She blossoms in tranquility and never cares to judge
True love shall never argue why as a ripple on the sea
As the air around about you nigh as a smile she is free
As free and easy as the heartbeat, as free and easy as the breath
Wide and wonderful and worldly, life with love shall conquer death
To grow as free as grow the grasses, flow as free as fills the lake
Free and easy as time passes, Life with love shall conquer hate
True heartbeat has no question as the flower loves the sun
As the water finds direction to the sea to be as one...

Our Nature
The birds in the sky
The sea is the most
A gently flowing stream
Rock pools on the coast
Glowing bright golden sands
Mountaintops and bush land
Native flowers colourded through
Evergreens, with love to you
The sweetness of fruit
A breath of fresh air
The warmth of the earth
The giving we share
Wild tree roots under foot
All the living we took
A little time for a dream
Naturally, caring and being

May love, peace, harmony
& positivity be yours forever.
